Learn to Bike Course Volunteers Needed

Here is the official call for volunteer instructors for the 2014 Special Needs Children's Learn to Bike Course.

We will need 5 or 7 volunteers for an orientation session for students on Thursday evening, April 24 for registration, helmet fit and bike check.

The course itself will be at Goldbar Park (Edmonton) Thursday afternoon/evenings from May 1 through to June 12. Hopefully we will be lucky with the weather this year and we won't run that long.

We will be running the same courses as previous years:

- course for students who can follow verbal instruction. Ten to fourteen students, one volunteer for each student, course runs from 6:00 P.M. to 6:45 P.M.

- course for students who need non-verbal instruction.  Four to six students, at least two volunteers for each student, course runs from 7:00 P.M. to 7:45 P.M.

We need 15 to 20 assistant instructors who are experienced bicyclists and/or occupational or physical therapists. Some formal training such as CanBike is welcomed but not required. There is a detailed course outline to assist new instructors and to bring return instructors back up to speed.

Please let me know:

- if you can help out,

- if you can make all the dates, and, if not,

- which dates/times you are able to attend.

Please feel free to pass this invite on to any knowledgeable cyclists, physical therapists or occupational therapists you know, and post it to any websites you think suitable.

I teach a variety of courses during the year, all of them enjoyable, but this course is the most fun and rewarding of them all!

Thank you so very much,
