Supports for Students, located in Sherwood Park, is home to approximately 60 of our EIPS employees.

32 hours per week (The days of work can be flexible, however availability to attend Occupational Therapy and Kindergarten related meetings will be an asset.)

Reporting to the Supervisor of Occupational Therapy, the OT will be providing services and support primarily within ECS. Some occasional consultative services to school-age classrooms within Elk Island Public Schools may be required.   The Occupational Therapist works in a supportive capacity with classroom teachers to support children’s and students’ learning and success.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist in this position is primarily responsible for the assessment, treatment and consultation services required as part of the EIPS Supports for Students team serving  pre-K/Kindergarten children in the division and as well as school-age students. The job addresses and identifies fine-motor and gross-motor, visual perception, self-regulation, and self-help issues that have been impacting the child’s/student’s performance at school.
 
- Collaboration- Liaise closely with teachers, educational assistants, therapists, family school liaison workers, specialists and parents who participate as part of each learner’s support team.
- Assessment and Intervention- Administer, score and interpret standardized pediatric occupational therapy assessments.
- Instructional Support- Provide intervention strategies within the classroom setting.
- Professional Development/Professional Activities- Facilitate professional development for parents, teachers and educational assistants that model effective strategies to support children’s/students’ learning needs.
Qualifications 
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy required.
- Registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapist (ACOT) is mandatory.
- Minimum 3 years related experience.
- Previous work within the school environment is an asset.
- This position requires a vehicle for business use.  Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.

- Effective decision making and leadership qualities.
- Demonstration and oral presentation abilities.
- Ability to translate and convey highly technical/medical information to parents/guardians and professional staff is essential.
- In this multi-disciplinary setting, it is essential to be well informed in all disciplines (speech and language, physical therapy and behavioral interventions) to meet the diverse learning needs of the child/student.
- Strong assessment and problem-solving skills are required to identify and address developmental delays.
- Ability to work independently while under the general direction of principal and/or teacher.
- Commitment to ongoing professional learning.
